Common grades and application fields of titanium alloy bars and titanium alloy forgings

Industrial pure titanium TA1, TA2, TA3:

It exhibits excellent stamping performance. It can undergo various forms of welding, demonstrating good welding performance, with weld joints achieving up to 90% of the base metal's strength. It is easy to saw and cut with grinding wheels, and has good machinability. It has excellent corrosion resistance and is suitable for parts that operate at temperatures below 350°C and experience low stress, as well as parts stamped into various complex shapes. Examples include condenser in thermal power stations; marine seawater corrosion-resistant piping systems, valves, and pumps; chemical heat exchangers, pump bodies, and distillation towers; seawater desalination systems, platinum-plated anodes; aircraft frames, skins, engine components, crossbeams, etc.

Common grades and applications of titanium alloys

Titanium alloy TA6:

It possesses good welding performance and high creep strength, but its workability is relatively low. It can be deformed under hot conditions. When subjected to axial loads, Dongri alloy exhibits no sensitivity to notches and has decent machinability. It is suitable for parts and weldments operating at temperatures below 400℃.

Titanium alloy TA7:

The stamping performance is poor, but the thermoplasticity is good. Dongri can undergo various forms of welding with good performance, and the strength and plasticity of the welded joint can be equivalent to that of the base metal. The machinability is the same as that of commercial pure titanium. It has good corrosion resistance and high-temperature thermal stability, making it suitable for structural components that operate at temperatures below 500℃ for long periods of time, and for various die-forging parts.

Titanium alloy TA8:

It has good thermoplasticity. Dongri can perform various forms of welding, demonstrating good weldability. Its machinability is comparable to that of commercially pure titanium. It has good oxidation resistance and is suitable for long-term operation of components at temperatures below 500°C. Dongri is capable of manufacturing engine compressor disks and blades.

Titanium alloy TC1:

It has good stamping properties. Dongri can perform various forms of welding, demonstrating good weldability. Its machinability is comparable to that of commercially pure titanium. It has good oxidation resistance and is suitable for parts operating at temperatures below 400°C. It is suitable for various sheet materials, stamped and welded parts.

Titanium alloy TC2:

At 350℃, the endurance strength remains above 400MPa for 100 hours, and it exhibits good plasticity during hot processing. When heated to 350-400℃, it shows no tendency to become brittle. Therefore, it can be used to weld parts that operate at high temperatures for parts, weldments, die forgings, and bent parts that operate at temperatures below 500℃.

Titanium alloy TC3:

It has poor stamping properties but good thermoplasticity. It can be welded in various forms, and the strength of the welded joint can reach 90% of the strength of the base metal. Its machinability is relatively good, but it requires the use of hard alloys, with large feed rates, slow speeds, and sufficient cooling. It has good corrosion resistance and thermal stability. Dongri metal is one of the most widely used titanium alloys for parts that operate at temperatures below 400℃ for extended periods.

Titanium alloy TC4:

The material composition is Ti-6Al-4V, which belongs to the (a+b) type titanium alloy and possesses excellent comprehensive mechanical properties. It has a high specific strength. The strength of TC4 is sb=1.012MPa, the density is g=4.4*103, and the specific strength is sb/g=23.5, while the specific strength of alloy steel is sb/g less than 18. Titanium alloys have low thermal conductivity. The thermal conductivity of titanium alloy is 1/5 of iron and 1/10 of aluminum, and the thermal conductivity of TC4 is l=7.955W/m·K. The linear expansion coefficient is 7.89*10-6 ℃, and the specific heat is 0.612cal/g ·℃. Titanium alloys have a relatively low elastic modulus. The elastic modulus of TC4 is E=110GPa, which is about 1/2 of steel, making titanium alloys prone to deformation during processing. TC4 (Ti-6Al-4V) and TA7 (Ti-5Al-2.5Sn) titanium alloys underwent surface modification through two implantation schemes. Experiments showed that after ion implantation, the titanium alloy's microhardness increased, the sliding friction coefficient significantly decreased, and its wear resistance was effectively improved. To elucidate the modification mechanism, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis was conducted on implanted and non-implanted samples, yielding satisfactory results. TC4 titanium alloy possesses a series of advantages such as excellent corrosion resistance, low density, high specific strength, good toughness, and weldability, and has been successfully applied in various sectors including aerospace, petrochemical, shipbuilding, automotive, mold, and pharmaceutical industries.

Titanium alloy TC5:

It remains stable below 350°C, but its plasticity decreases at higher temperatures. Parts that operate below 350°C can undergo deformation processes such as forging and stamping when in a hot state.

Titanium alloy TC9:

The thermoplasticity is good. The machinability is the same as that of T alloy. The corrosion resistance is high. The thermal stability is good for parts that work for a long time below 400℃. It can be used to manufacture compressor disks and blades.

Titanium alloy TC10:

Poor stamping performance, good thermoplasticity. Dongri can perform various forms of welding, with weld joint strength up to 90% of the base metal strength. The machinability is the same as that of T alloy. Good corrosion resistance. Good thermal stability, significant heat treatment effect, good hardenability. Suitable for parts that work for long periods at temperatures below 450℃.
